Naastenliefde?
Interaction design, Storytelling, Communities

One of the key teachings in the Bible is, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself," a principle known as love for humanity, or naastenliefde in Dutch. This concept encourages unconditional love and care for others, without judgment. However, in many Christian communities, this ideal is often overshadowed by stories of fear and rejection.

How can we open a dialogue with young Christians about their interpretation of love for humanity?

By creating a instalation where new stories are shared—stories of individuals who have felt excluded or unloved within Christian communities. Engaging with these stories can foster understanding and reflection. Additionally, providing a platform for discussion and personal expression can help initiate meaningful conversations about what true love for humanity should look like.

"Mensen zeiden toen tegen mij:
'je mag niet zo zijn'. Omdat we
als team zo'n hechte band
hadden, kwam dat extra hard binnen."

"People told me, 'You can't be like that.' Given the close bond we had as a team, those words hit me even harder."

"Ik heb veel angst gekend, en dat blijft in je systeem zitten. Zelfs later blijft dat gevoel van angst hangen, alsof elke fout je naar de hel kan sturen."

"I've known a lot of fear, and that stays in your system. Even later that feeling of fear lingers, as if any mistake could send you to hell."

"Ik vond het nog steeds moeilijk om mezelf te accepteren als queer persoon. Ik voelde me erg eenzaam en onzichtbaar, omdat er geen representatie was."

"I still found it hard to accept myself as a queer person. I felt very lonely and invisible because there was no representation."
